Everything You'll Have Covered

Describe how we breathe. What process takes place in our body?

~ Breathing is controlled by rib muscles and the diaphragm. When we inhale, the rib muscles contract and lift the chest wall upward and outward. At the same time, the diaphragm contracts and moves downward. When we inhale, the chest cavity grows larger, providing extra space for the lungs. Air rushes into our lungs because the pressure of the air inside our chest cavity is lower than the pressure of the atmosphere pushing onto our body.

When we exhale, the rib muscles and the diaphragm relax, the chest cavity becomes smaller, and the air inside our lungs is squeezed out.
